The Segmenter Caching Edge Rule provides granular control over the HLS/DASH manifest and segment caching within our CDN. This rule helps optimize performance for both live streaming and Video-on-Demand (VOD) content by ensuring efficient caching at the edge.

Steps to Configure Segmenter Caching Edge Rule

1. Log into your 5centsCDN Dashboard

  • Access your 5centsCDN account by logging into the CDN dashboard.

2. Create an HTTP Pull Zone

  • Navigate to Zones > HTTP Pull Zones.
  • Click the Plus Green button at the top right to create the zone and enter the required details.

3. Configure Segmenter Caching Settings

A. Optimize the CDN Resource

  • Under the CDN Resource section, find Optimize For.
  • Select the appropriate option based on your use case:
    • HLS/Dash Live (for live streaming)
    • HLS/Dash VoD (for Video-on-Demand)
  • Click Save to apply.

B. Manage Edge Rules

  • Scroll down & click on the EdgeRules section.

C. Locate and Configure HLS/DASH Caching Settings

  • Select Default Behaviors.
  • Scroll down & Locate HLS/DASH Manifest/Segment Caching from the Edge Rules list.
  • Click on it to open the caching settings.

D. Enable and Adjust Segmenter Caching

  • Find the option Enable Segmenter Caching and choose from:
    • Enabled – Turns on segmenter caching.
    • Disabled – Turns off segmenter caching.
    • Inherit – Follows the settings of the parent rule.
  • Adjust caching durations as needed:
    • Manifest Caching – Edge (seconds)
    • Segment Caching – Edge (minutes)
  • Click Save to apply the changes.
